Hello! I’m Ming. =)
We are – if you disagree later, then I am =) – bombarded with too much information these days. I’m not a savant. From articles online to quotes uttered by characters on TV dramas, my tiny brain simply does not have enough memory space to hold all the knowledge and ideas I encounter every day.
I love ideas. I am excited by ideas. In fact, my friend once said that I am addicted to novelty. I love everything new. But the problem I realize is that I always forget the new ideas or random uber cool trivia I have learnt. I read a lot, be it on the structure of the internet, cognitive development or ancient greece, but I am poor at recalling or using these knowledge. When asked what cool knowledge I have acquired over the past seven months of holiday, I’m stuck. Apart from a thing or two here and there, I can’t remember much else, yet I am acutely aware of the excessive time I spent each day reading, watching, and listening. I have been at the passive, receiving end of ideas/information/knowledge for far too long.
All these knowledge/information learned means nothing if I can only recall them in the immediate term. In the past, knowledge is hard to find – researching an issue often took much longer than a single click on Google; now, the opposite problem exists, that of having too much information. This means the ability to sort through, analyze effectively, and provide insights that build upon these information becomes more important than ever. Sadly, I am bad at that; I need learn how to evaluate and synthesize information better.
After spending much time reflecting, I decided that a solution is to start this blog. =) Like Fireworks Ideas Explode will be a place for me to store random ideas, cool knowledge, or plain information I encounter now and then. It will force me to use acquired ideas actively – active, at least in the sense of putting them on this blog in my own words. It will also serve the auxiliary functions of improving my writing further and sharing the enthusiasm I derive from new ideas with my blog readers. I may still forget, but at least one day, clicking through the archives, I can marvel again at both the interesting and boring ideas I wrote about.
This blog is titled as it is because I believe very much that ideas explode like fireworks. Not just ideas – to me, new/novel/different stuff usually explode like fireworks!!! I do hope you will in time discover the excitement behind ideas as much as I do. =) =) =)
